Application of Communicative Teaching Approach in Teaching Spoken English

Abstract

The traditional teaching theory is mainly teacher-centered, paying no attention to the students’ communicative competence, neglecting the students’ language creativity. This kind of teaching method isn’t adapt to the wider and wider scope of foreign exchange that China is expanding, and can’t meet our country’s needs for the high quality talent. Under the circumstances, it is essential for us to adopt the communicative teaching approach in order to develop the student’s ability to comprehend language and improve their communicative ability. This thesis is going to put forward a teaching model: creating a context for students to speak English in the classroom. Its purpose is to stimulate students’ motivation and develop their communicative ability and accordingly to improve the quality of oral English teaching in middle school. There are four parts in this thesis. The first part introduces the emergence of the communicative teaching approach and compares with the traditional teaching method. Part two describes the current situation of oral English teaching in middle school. What’s more, this thesis explores solution to these problems and applicate the communicative teaching approach. Part three gives us some examples and a teaching design according to communicative teaching approach. At last, the author makes a brief conclusion of this thesis.

摘  要

到目前為至我們的外語教育特別是基礎外語教育依然沿襲著傳統的外語教學理論和模式,外語教學仍停留在應試教育模式上,隨著社會的發展,其弊端日益顯露出來。傳統的教學理論在教學上表現為教師講為主,注重知識的灌輸,忽視學生是主體,忽略了學生的語言創造力。這種培養方式越來越不適應中國日益擴大的對外交流,不能滿足我國對高素質人才的需求。這時采用以培養學習者的語言理解力、表達能力和相互溝通思想的能力為目標的交際教學法就顯得至關重要。交際教學法作為流行于世界的外語教學理論,在于它揭示了語言的社會功能和外語教學的本質和目標,在于它始終把交際能力的培養作為外語教學的核心。所以,大力推行交際教學法,正是新的國情的需要。本文分為4個部分:首先介紹了交際教學法,接著分析了英語教學的現狀,論證了交際教學法在英語教學課堂中實施的重要性,并以口語教學為例,根據交際教學法的特點、目的和實施原則,探討如何在課堂中實施交際教學法。
